Workshop on Gaelic work songs
Meet the charm of Gaelic songs which in the Scottish tradition were sung by women during tweed waulking. Waulking was the final stage in the long process of producing homespun cloth. For the women who took part in this process it was an enjoyable social occasion, with plenty of fun and gossip as well as hard work.
The group “Sgioba Luaidh Inbhirchluaidh” (Inverclyde Waulking Group), which specialize in reconstructing Gaelic songs, will lead a workshop on songs sung by women during tweed waulking.
The workshop will take place on the 6th and 7th of October between 2-6pm at the Crossroads Centre.

ABOUT FESTIVAL
This year’s festival, entitled “The Oldest Songs of Europe. Tradition and Avant-garde”, is prepared as part of the cultural programme accompanying the Polish Presidency of the Council of the European Union. It is unique, because for the first time it will present outstanding performers of contemporary music, avant-garde jazz and progressive rock, who experiment with the musical heritage of Europe. Their music shows that the experience of archaic roots of European music may anticipate original artistic contexts and explore brand new musical paths.
Jan Bernad,
Miroslaw Haponiuk
